Grupo IMO Brings TomoTherapy® Radiation Treatments to Spain
Since 1991, Grupo IMO (Oncology Institute of Madrid) has been introducing innovative radiation therapy techniques in Spain, including stereotactic, intraoperative, and intensity modulated radiation therapy. Continuing this pioneering tradition, Grupo IMO will be the first center to offer TomoTherapy treatments to patients in Spain.
The Hi·Art System® will be housed in a new area of the Clínica La Milagrosa in Madrid. Dr. J. Samblás, Grupo IMO President, Dr. Morera, Radiation Oncologist and Prof. José Miguel Delgado, Radiation Physicist, will be working with TomoTherapy to begin treating patients in March 2006.
As Dr. Samblás explains, “We are very proud to be introducing this revolutionary system in Spain as it will mean an encouraging step forward in the fight against cancer.”
The mission of Grupo IMO is to provide world-class service to patients by providing integrated medical services in the Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery fields. Grupo IMO takes a comprehensive approach to cancer, integrating the latest technologies into the best medical practices.
To this end, the oncology team at the Milagrosa clinic are developing treatment protocols to include the use of CT-PET scanning before TomoTherapy treatment, as well as during follow-up.
Grupo IMO has the largest autonomous network of 7 reference centres for cancer treatment using radiotherapy and radiosurgery techniques in Spain.
