TomoTherapy Incorporated and Moffitt Partner to Improve Patient Care
Top Cancer Center Will Install Three TomoTherapy® Hi·Art® Systems
TomoTherapy Incorporated announced today that the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in Tampa, Florida will receive three TomoTherapy Hi·Art Systems. The partnership will enable one of America’s leading cancer hospitals to begin treating patients with the industry’s most advanced radiation therapy system as soon as August, 2006.
Incorporating features that facilitate treatment planning, dose targeting, precise IG/IMRT treatment delivery, and effective adaptive planning, the TomoTherapy Hi·Art System offers Moffitt unprecedented day-to-day flexibility and productivity, which adds up to continuously-improved care for their patients.
As Craig Stevens, M.D., Ph.D., Moffitt Division Chief, Radiation Oncology, explains, “The Hi·Art System’s imaging capability allows us to follow patient response to treatment on a daily basis. For instance, if a tumor responds quickly, this could cause an increase in radiation dose to healthy tissue. We will now be able to detect the response and adapt our therapy accordingly, allowing us to further individualize our treatment approach to every patient.”
With the addition of Moffitt to a growing list of customers worldwide, the TomoTherapy Hi·Art System is now being used to treat patients in highly regarded cancer centers in North America, Greater Europe, and Asia Pacific. “Moffitt is consistently rated among the leading cancer hospitals in the U.S.,” said Dr. Fred Robertson, CEO of TomoTherapy Incorporated. “We’re excited about the possibilities of this partnership. It’s one more significant step in the reshaping of radiation therapy.”
